Whether you are a creative genius or anticipating a coming project in the distant future this is a great technique to make sure inspiration is just a click away. Say you are browsing around the web and you come across this fantastic website. It doesn’t even have to be the whole site that catches your attention. Maybe you really just love the way they did their navigation or the footer. Why not take a picture of that and save it for later when you need a little design nudge in the right direction. I use Google Chrome so here so how I do it.
- Install the “Screen Capture” extension (by Google).
- Find something you like, capture it.
- Then save it to your computer. I have all kinds of folders for each great find:
- Headers
- Footers
- Navigation
- Sidebars
- Layouts
- Typography
- Colors
Now the next time you are starting a project and you find yourself with no idea how you want to design the navigation, open your “navigation” folder and just browse through all the ideas that caught your attention before. You might just kick start your next great design concept.
I love this and it’s helped me a lot in the past. How would you improve it?
